SCTE, CableLabs Partner on Symposium

The SCTE and CableLabs announced this week that they will be partnering to host a symposium on wireless and DOCSIS 3.1. The symposium will be a pre-conference event at Cable-Tec Expo on September 22. For details on the event, check out Broadband Technology Report's article.

CoSN Reveals Cost of Wi-Fi in Schools

Last week, the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) and the EducationSuperHighway revealed what’s needed to bring President Obama’s vision of ensuring 99 percent of American K-12 schools have broadband and Wi-Fi by 2018 to fruition. The technological implications of this initiative are extensive. According to the findings: · 74 percent of schools already have an in-building fiber backbone; · 80 percent of schools can support gigabit broadband through existing wiring; · 80 percent of schools have some WiFi capabilities in 90 percent of their classrooms, though those capabilities may not meet the standard of "robust" connectivity; · 57 percent of districts reported their wireless

Media outlets around the industry are picking up the news: There's a new expert joining CableLabs' impressive roster. CCAP Sales Grow 177% in Q1

According to a report from Multichannel News, sales of Converged Cable Access Platform equipment rose 177% in the first quarter of 2014. TiVo Adds Record Subs in Q1

TiVo, the DVR pioneer, set a record in the first quarter of 2014, adding 341,000 MSO subscribers. The boost pushes TiVo to over 4.5 million total subscribers. 4K TV Shipments Jump in March

According to a report release by IHS Technology, shipments of 4K TVs rose sharply, from 384,000 units in February to 1.1 million in March. Report: Best Pay-TV Quarter in Years

According to a recent report, U.S. pay-TV operators saw their best quarter in the last three years at the beginning of this year. U.S. multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs) posted their best numbers since the first quarter of 2011. FierceCable breaks down the numbers here.
