On April 27, 2022, attendees at the CableLabs 10G Showcase had a front-row seat to history in the making. Two U.S. cable operators, Charter and Comcast, unveiled a series of DOCSIS 4.0 prototypes that reached near-10G speeds with incremental changes to the cable plant. Both demonstrations were based on distributed access architectures, using Remote-PHY and Remote-MACPHY devices that were built to CableLabs’ specifications.
For years,the industry has been talking about the untapped potential of cable’s sprawling DOCSIS-based infrastructure as a key advantage on the road to 10G.
