A new project from CableLabs, Seamless Connectivity Services – Mobile Optionality (SCS/MO), aims to meet subscriber Internet access needs at home, away from home, in remote areas and while traveling, all in a single offering. In addition, Mobile Optionaility enables unmatched mobile performance through smart densification utilizing the existing HFC network.
Subscribers purchase connectivity at home (fixed broadband in the form of Cable, Fiber, FWA access, and connectivity for their mobile and portable devices (smartphones, tablets, computers, smartwatches) when they are away from home. This often requires different user interfaces and authorization or access information (e.g. username, passwords) to connect to these networks, increasing complexity and frustration for subscribers. In addition, access is often purchased while traveling (in-flight Wi-Fi), international roaming and direct-to-device from LEO Satellites in remote areas.
Connectivity would be seamless, secure, with best-in-class reliability and assure that user applications are best connected whenever and wherever they are running them. In addition, utilizing the HFC network for densification of mobile services allows members to offer differentiated mobile and seamless connectivity services.
