The Cable Broadband Industry’s Cybersecurity Commitment

The cable broadband industry is driving the future of network security—advancing research, innovation, and real-world solutions to protect millions of homes and businesses across the country.

As cyber threats, including from nation-states and global organized crime syndicates, grow more persistent and sophisticated, the cable broadband industry is actively deploying and scaling cutting-edge protections within its networks and infrastructure. Through CableLabs’ research and development, technical risk assessments, tooling, and lab-based testing, new security standards and technologies are moving rapidly from concept to implementation.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Countering Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and securing the hardware and software supply chain.

  • Advancing Infrastructure Standards and Trust, building on DOCSIS® standards to safeguard every layer of the network.

  • Cryptographic Innovation, including preparing for post-quantum cryptography threats and ensuring cryptographic agility.

  • Secure Smart Homes and Devices, shaping interoperable security standards for IoT and Wi-Fi environments.

  • Internet Routing and Infrastructure Security, advancing secure routing protocols and applying zero trust and intelligent telemetry from interconnection points to endpoints.

  • AI Security, ensuring trusted AI systems, agents, data and secure automation tools.

CableLabs and the cable broadband industry also play a leading role in shaping federal cybersecurity policy, collaborating with NIST, FCC, NTIA, ONCD, CISA, and other government agencies, as well as with cross-sector public-private working groups and standards development organizations to advance critical information sharing and incident response initiatives in support of national security and emergency preparedness efforts to protect critical communications infrastructure.
