OpenCable™ Specifications — OpenCable Host Device Core Functional Requirements

The specifications and documents in the following table define the required elements of an interactive host device for receipt of cable video content.

The specifications include all required hardware, middleware software (OCAP), CableCARD interface, and security elements.

The OpenCable™ Host Device Core Functional Requirements Specification is the main baseline specification which refers to other required and optional specifications. Optional extensions, such as DVR and Home Networking are also listed.

Some of the software specifications, including OCAP and the OCAP DVR extension, also include a reference implementation and corresponding Conformance Test Plan (to make a complete spec-RI-CTP "bundle"). Reference Implementations are publicly available on java.net. The Conformance Test Plan is available under license from CableLabs. Contact oc-mail@cablelabs.com for additional information.

Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) have been approved for many of CableLabs'-issued specifications. The ECNs are considered part of the set of specifications—the ECNs and the issued specifications must be examined in order to fully understand specific requirements. Please check the OpenCable ECN listing for all curent ECNs and the OpenCable ECO listing for all current ECOs.

To submit an Engineering Change Request (ECR) against a CableLabs specification, please download the CableLabs Engineering Change Request Form (in Word RTF format), fill it out, and then submit the form as an attachment via e-mail to the address specified in the ECR form.
