CableLabs® announced today that it will hold a meeting on June 7 at its headquarters to hand off to the DOCSIS vendor community prototype software that provides an accurate analysis of DOCSIS network usage. The meeting will introduce the vendor community to key ideas behind the software and to terms and conditions associated with the source code use.

The meeting is open invitation and will be attended by CableLabs staff to discuss the software, as well as by cable operators to provide an industry perspective on the value that it provides. Interested parties should contact Steven Saunders at CableLabs for further information, no later then May 25th.

The CableLabs-developed software provides an accurate analysis of DOCSIS network usage based on information provided about the configuration and performance of DOCSIS network elements, as well as network traffic patterns associated with various services.

The software prototype was developed last year at CableLabs, in close coordination with cable operators, as a proof-of-concept project. The cable industry has shown a high degree of interest in the software because it helps in planning for DOCSIS upgrades as well as new service rollouts. It also allows for close usage monitoring of an operating network. Cable operators have requested that CableLabs provide the source code to the commercial sector for further development.
