CableNET® '02 Features 60 Demonstrations Of the Latest in Broadband Applications
Louisville, Colorado, October 14, 2002—CableNET®, the broadband industry�s premiere technology showcase, has announced its list of about 60 broadband demonstrations in this year�s exhibit, including 14 in its interactive centerpiece. The exhibit is part of the BroadbandPlus (The New Western Show) at the Anaheim Convention Center December 3-6.
Now in its 10th year, CableNET magnifies the true value of broadband services by once again offering a hands-on experience with many of the most exciting interactive services now available.
The theme of this year�s original CableNET exhibit is Turn on the Future, and it will include displays of true broadband services and examples of how the evolving broadband technology has expanded to include more business-to-business solutions that keep cable services innovative and competitive. The entire CableNET® �02 exhibit will cover about 10,000 square feet on the Anaheim Convention Center show floor.
�This year�s 10th anniversary of CableNET continues the tradition of having a powerful demonstration of cable�s broadband might as a highlight of the industry�s top technology show, whether it is called The Western Show or BroadbandPlus,� said Dr. Richard R. Green, CableLabs President and CEO.
The CableNET exhibits are co-sponsored by the California Cable & Telecommunications Association (CCTA) and Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs®) as educational forums. They demonstrate the potential of the cable industry�s hybrid fiber/coaxial systems, and the expanding number of video, telecommunications, and entertainment applications such systems will deliver to cable customers. CableLabs manages key cable industry research and development projects—such as OpenCable™, PacketCable™, CableHome™, Go2BroadbandSM, and Data over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS™)—that seek to assure interoperability with future telecommunications technologies and services. Cablelabs, for the first time during Wave 24, which began on October 7, now has accepted new product for evaluation from CableHome, Packet Cable, and DOCSIS 2.0 vendors.
CableLabs manages these interoperability projects on behalf of its members, who are cable television system operators based in North and South America. CableLabs has undertaken these interoperability projects as a collective effort with its members and with participating vendors, many of whom will be featured at CableNET® �02. Because of its key position in these projects, CableLabs serves as a focal point for the convergence of the cable, computer, consumer electronics, and broadcast industries.

Acterna will show a modular, scalable, interoperable operational support system, with an application that helps to manage and to monitor the mass usage of DOCSIS™-based high-speed data networks (upstream and downstream).
Alopa Networks will demonstrate its ability to provision a PacketCable™-based media terminal adapter (MTA) and a CableHome™-based residential gateway using a single platform-Alopa MetaServ™.
Arbor Networks� technology detects and resolves network anomalies-such as denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, worms, misconfigurations, and outages-protecting network security and availability.
ATI Technologies' cable set-top system-on-chip, Xilleon™, decodes two high-definition (HD) motion picture encoding group (MPEG) video streams.
Aurora Networks will display how its cable architecture provides multiple, independent 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet connections to business customers by leveraging existing hybrid fiber coax (HFC) infrastructure.
BayPackets, Inc. will show a network services platform that enables cable operators to deploy services such as prepaid, voicemail, unified communications, single number service and inbound cable call manager over PacketCable™-based networks and offers a record keeping server (RKS) to integrate with back office systems such as billing, fraud and churn.
Broadcom Corporation will show how chip technology enables a DOCSIS™-based 2.0 cable modem, a CableHome™-based wireless/wireline cable modem, and a PacketCable™-based voice cable modem. The company's video technology demonstrations will show HDTV (high-definition) transmission over hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks and DOCSIS-based set-top boxes that display digital photographs.
Canal+ Technologies, Inc. will exhibit a fully-integrated, multimedia home platform (MHP)-compliant interactive television solution running key applications on its MEDIAHIGHWAY™ middleware.
Casero Inc. will exhibit residential gateway software that enables delivery of security, entertainment, and communication services, such as Internet safety, video surveillance, song and photo management, and home networking.
Cedar Point Communications, Inc. will demonstrate an integrated switched Internet Protocol (IP) platform with a reverse gateway that includes all of the discrete voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) network elements in a single chassis to support packet-to-packet, packet-to-circuit, circuit-to-packet, and circuit-to-circuit voice-over-a-cable network.
Ceon Corporation will display their service activation system, which enables customer self-service activation of voice-over-Internet Protocol and high-speed data services.
Com21, Inc.'s asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), DOCSIS™-based, and EuroDOCSIS™-based end-to-end systems enable delivery of high-speed Internet and telephony applications to residential and business subscribers.
comMATCH will display a PacketCable™-based technology, including voice-over- Internet Protocol (VoIP) carrier-grade access gateways (Internet data protocol terminal (IDPT)/ Internet protocol access terminal (IPAT) ), as well as media and signaling gateways.
Convedia Corporation will exhibit carrier-class media servers for PacketCable™-based announcements, interactive voice response (IVR), and conferencing.
Convergent Networks will show a broadband telephony infrastructure solution for cable operators seeking to deliver Internet protocol voice services to residential and business customers.
Core Networks' CableHome™-based solution is a Web-enabled, inventory, provisioning, and monitoring application for operations staff on the frontline of residential gateway service delivery.
Ellacoya Networks, Inc.'s in-flow Internet protocol (IP) switches and centralized software provide the ability to measure, control, and report on network usage by user and application at line rate and in real-time.
Equator Technologies, Inc. will display their BSP™ family of chips that are programmable, power-efficient system-on-a-chip processors for video streaming and image processing applications.
Gallery IP Telephony Inc.'s multimedia platform incorporates a PacketCable™-based class-5 softswitch, game sharing, and video conferencing applications. The softswitch supports the advanced features dynamic quality-of-service (DQoS) and security.
Go2BroadbandSM, a service of CableLabs®, provides an Internet-based electronic commerce tool to assist affiliated computer makers, retail partners, and content providers in selling cable services.
Hewlett-Packard will exhibit an analysis tool that collects and uses detailed subscriber usage data for financial and network planning, in addition to HP's PacketCable™- based record keeping server (RKS) that enables usage-based billing for premium services like voice and video-on-demand (VOD).
ICTV, Inc.�s HeadendWare supports customer service tutorials, e-commerce, games, Internet access, and other applications, by delivering interactivity and audio/video streaming via thin digital set-top boxes utilizing headend-based PC technology.
InnoMedia Inc. will show the multimedia terminal adapters (MTA) 3000 Series of MTAs, and an Internet Protocol VideoPhone interoperating with PacketCable™-based call agents, for voice and video calling.
Intel Corporation will demonstrate the use of their chipset as a building block for media center applications such as personal video recording.
IP Unity provides a carrier-grade communication services platform for voice and telephony applications over existing and next-generation networks.
Juniper Networks, Inc. will exhibit multimedia services selection and activation using PacketCable™ specifications for tiered Internet, streaming media, and content services delivery.
Liberate's middleware, TV Navigator, enables multimedia home platform (MHP)-compliant interactive television applications. The company's operating support system (OSS) is a service provisioning and management solution for broadband operators.
Microsoft Corporation will demonstrate Microsoft TV, a standards-based client and server platform that enables delivery of enhanced digital TV services across a range of devices.
nCUBE Corporation's platform enables insertion of local advertisements into digital cable networks. The media management system provides a powerful monitoring tool for operators, including real-time reporting and bandwidth management.
NETGEAR designs and develops technology that enables customers to share broadband Internet access, network peripherals, and to enjoy multimedia entertainment among multiple PC's and Internet-enabled devices.
Nortel Networks will show multimedia and telephony services delivered over a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network with a supporting bandwidth management system, which adjusts the capacity of the backbone network according to the type of traffic it is carrying.
Nuera Communications, Inc.'s broadband media gateway provides PacketCable™-based trunking access to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and interoperates with media gateway controllers (MGCs) from a variety of vendors.
RADVISION will exhibit Internet Protocol (IP)-based videoconferencing solutions including gateways, gatekeepers, and call management platforms. The infrastructure sits behind the headend equipment and enables the offering of broadband IP-based videoconferencing services to business and residential end users.
Sandvine Incorporated helps broadband service providers deepen subscriber relationships and manage the growing burden of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing traffic.
Siemens Network Convergence LLC�s softswitch and media gateway enable on-net to on-net calling, on-net to off-net calling, and provide PacketCable™-based calling features.
Sonus Networks, Inc. will demonstrate its PacketCable™-based voice infrastructure solutions, including media gateway (MG), call management server (CMS), media gateway controller (MGC), signaling gateway (SG), and network management solutions.
Sugar Media Inc. will be exhibiting SugarCube, a broadband subscription service that leverages high-speed access and Web services to provide a platform for the deployment of services such as personal video recording, video-on-demand, digital music and photo management, and home networking.
Syndeo Corporation will exhibit a PacketCable™-based, carrier-class call management server, and media gateway controller.
Telcordia Technologies, Inc.'s PacketCable™-based call agent combines carrier-class reliability with softswitch packet technology to provide a foundation for delivering advanced network-based multimedia applications.
Teradyne, Inc.'s broadband customer care platform identifies failure points within a cable access network and reduces call handling time and erroneous truck rolls.
Terayon Communication Systems will demonstrate videoconferencing technology, which is based upon the advanced physical layer technology of DOCSIS™ 2.0. One cable modem will run synchronous code division multiple access (S-CDMA); the other will employ Advanced Frequency Agile Time Division Multiple Access (A-TDMA).
Thales Broadcast & Multimedia will display an interactive TV broadcasting reference platform to broadcast multimedia home platform (MHP) interactive applications and which provides management of all MHP descriptors, as well as an automatic mechanism to optimize MHP carousels.
Thomson Multimedia, Inc. (Thomson/RCA) will demonstrate a PacketCable™-based voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) media terminal adapter (MTA), which supports multi-line and multi-handsets with cordless digital spread spectrum technology.
Toshiba America Information Systems will exhibit the PCX5000, which integrates a DOCSIS™ 1.0 cable modem and wireless router, which includes a firewall.
Wavexpress will show the secure broadcast (Internet protocol multicast) of music and video to cable modem subscribers. Broadcast content will be stored on the home PC and protected by the EMBASSY® conditional access solution.
Wipro Technologies will display CableHome™- based residential gateway software with PacketCable™-based voice-over-cable functionality, which enables delivery of new value-added services to consumers.
