CableLabs® Announces Promotions

Louisville, Colorado, June 11, 2001—Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®) has announced that several of its staff have been promoted recently to either manager, project director, or director.

Mark Eggleston was promoted to Director, Finance, from corporate controller. In his new capacity, Eggleston is responsible for financial forecasting, corporate risk management and budgeting. Prior to joining CableLabs, Mr. Eggleston served as the Chief Financial Officer for Up With People, an international, nonprofit, educational organization. He received his B.A. degree in economics from Colgate University and his M.B.A. in accounting and finance from the University of Colorado.

Dr. Terry Shaw was promoted to Director, Network Systems, from Senior Advisor, Network Systems. Shaw joined CableLabs from Raytheon E-Systems. He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a B.A. with honors from the University of Texas at Austin.

Maria Stachelek is advanced to Director, Business Development and Standards, from Project Director, Software Systems and Architecture. In her new position, she will be actively involved in national and international standards activities as well as the business development activities for the PacketCable™ project. Stachelek has more than 10 years experience as a software engineer prior to joining CableLabs. She earned her B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and she earned her M.B.A./M.S. in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado.

Tom Thompson moves up to Director, PacketCable Interoperability Testing from project director for the same function. In his new position he has overall responsibility for the PacketCable Testing Program. His teams create compliance test plans, conduct testing operations and report results to the PacketCable Certification Board. He holds an M.B.A. from Arizona State University, an MIM (Master's of International Management) from Thunderbird, and a BA from The University of Colorado.

So Vang was promoted to Director of OpenCable™ Software from Project Director for OpenCable Software in the Advanced Platforms and Services Department. The software element of OpenCable is known as OCAP, for OpenCable Applications Platform, and will serve as the middleware layer of software in advanced OpenCable digital devices. Before joining CableLabs, Vang was a Senior Analyst for Thomson Consumer Electronics. He earned his BS in Computer Science from Purdue University with emphasis on Mathematics Theory and Algorithm Optimization.

David Clark advances to Project Director, Network Engineering in the Information Technology Department, from Manager, Network Engineering. He is responsible for overseeing the growth and operations of CableLabs' data network infrastructure, including managing Unix and Windows systems administrators and network engineers. Clark has worked at CableLabs for three years.

Jim Rice was advanced to Manager, Technology Demonstrations, from Engineer, Technology Demonstrations. In this capacity, he is the technical manager for CableLabs demonstrations, including technical lead for the CableNET® demonstration that CableLabs co-sponsors annually at The Western Show. Before joining CableLabs, Rice was a regional network administrator for CB Richard Ellis. He has a B.S.B.A. from Ohio State University.

Sheldon Webster has moved to Manager, PacketCable Lab Operations, from Member of Technical Staff. He will manage a group of PacketCable testing staff, focusing on organizational activities and keeping the program on a forward-looking track. Before joining CableLabs, Webster was employed as a Consulting Engineer with Integration Technologies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado. Other accredited training activities include programs in broadband technologies, fiber optic transmission systems and project management.
