CableLabs® and 14 Modem Suppliers To Co-Host Cable Modem Celebration
Brian Setzer Orchestra and Others to Entertain at Western Show
Louisville, Colorado, October 14, 1999—Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®) announced today that it will co-host a party at the Western Show celebrating the availability of cable modems for retail sale and the high-speed Internet access they enable in the broadband millennium.
Fourteen modem and cable modem headend equipment manufacturers, including 3Com, Arris, Askey, Broadcom, Cadence, Cisco, Com21, Conexant, Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung, Terayon, Thomson Consumer Electronics, and Toshiba will co-sponsor the event.
The event, to be held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 15, 1999, will present The Brian Setzer Orchestra as the headliner; an as-yet-to-be-named act will open the show. Tickets, which will be distributed by the co-sponsors, will be necessary to enter the party.
The theme for the party is "Reaching the Speed of the 21st Century—A Celebration" and is a tribute to all of the suppliers who have made cable modems possible and helped to make that high-speed capability available to consumers everywhere. It also builds the foundation for the migration of the cable industry to a telecommunications industry. Chuck Klein Productions is producing the party.
"Cable modem makers and headend manufacturers are working together in this activity to celebrate a new era and business opportunity. This celebration is a way to thank the cable industry for its commitment to an interoperable, retail-available, high-speed Internet access business that will enable the broadband millennium," said Rouzbeh Yassini, executive consultant to CableLabs and its CableLabs® Certified™ cable modem initiative.
