"Don has had extensive experience with CableLabs and its members over the course of the past five years and has been a key player in OpenCable since its inception, providing guidance and direction for retail and software strategies," said CableLabs president and CEO, Dr. Richard R. Green. "We have not missed a deadline on this project and I am certain that Don will continue to lead this initiative to ensure the industry continues this terrific track record," Green added.

"Don will be supported by a veteran OpenCable team, which has contributed substantially to the project. The staff includes David Broberg, director of OpenCable requirements, who is responsible for system architecture; David P. Reed, senior vice president of strategic planning, who is responsible for strategic focus; Paul Zimmerman, systems integration manager, who is responsible for POD/host development and evaluation; and software engineer, So Vang, who is responsible for software development," Green stated.

"I believe that Don has made significant contributions to the OpenCable effort," said Jim Chiddix, chief technical officer for Time Warner Cable and a key participant in the project as a CableLabs member. "His quiet, effective work in our industry branding efforts and in helping to build stronger relationships with the consumer electronics and retail industries have greatly benefited the project."

"Don has been an important team player and an effective liaison with the OpenCable business team," said Mark A. Coblitz, vice president of strategic planning for Comcast Corporation and head of the OpenCable business team. "The OpenCable project is critical to the cable industry’s advanced services effort, and we are fortunate to have Don at the helm of the staff."

OpenCable, which is managed through CableLabs, is a fast-track initiative of the cable television industry with a goal of attaining interoperable digital set-top boxes manufactured by multiple vendors. These devices would be capable of delivering digital video, data and interactive services to a television set. The capability also may be built into consumer electronics devices, such as digital television sets.

Dulchinos has been responsible for coordinating the OpenCable business and technical advisory teams in their deliberations aimed at designing an industry specification for next generation digital set-top boxes. He also was instrumental in the efforts that resulted in the issuance of the OpenCable middleware RFP. Before joining CableLabs, Dulchinos spent seven years as director of research with the National Cable Television Association, where he specialized in technology assessment and strategic analysis of other telecommunications and information industries.

Dulchinos holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Graduate School of Business and Public Management at the University of Denver, and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Union College in Schenectady, NY.
