CableLabs® To Host |
| The cable industry
has a terrific opportunity to become the distribution system of choice for television,
data and telecommunications. However, cable cant do it alone; new and innovative
technology and content are needed to enable the next generation of services. After the
major events of 1998, the industry is now positioned to take advantage of the technology
that CableLabs and its members have pursued. Broadband content, electronic commerce, and new applications and services are the focus of this years conference. Top-level speakers from cutting-edge companies will give their vision of the rapidly evolving Internet space and the new services it is enabling. The conferencealso will provide updates from Washington, as well as hear from the financial community. With the Year 2000 barely half a year away, the cable industry appears well positioned to take advantage of its high-capacity, highly capable network. CableLabs® Certified cable modems are making their way through CableLabs certification and soon to retail space. The OpenCable and PacketCable teams are working hard to achieve similar objectives. But no matter how well the industry does on its commitment towards interoperability, there are resources and capabilities that cable must import to ensure that these enabling technologies meet consumers needs. This year, CableLabs has fashioned its annual summer conference to take a look at some of these key areas. The conference, entitled Convergence on Cable: Bandwidth Rules, will be held Monday through Wednesday, July 12-14, 1999, at the Vail Cascade Hotel & Club, Vail, Colorado. This conference is free to any representative of a CableLabs member company. Attendance is limited to cable television operators and special invited guests.
