CableLabs® Offers DOCSIS®
Network Software to Vendors

Print This Page

CableLabs® held a meeting on June 7 at its headquarters to provide the DOCSIS vendor community with prototype software that accurately analyzes DOCSIS network usage. The meeting introduced the vendor community to key ideas behind the software and to terms and conditions associated with the source code use.

The meeting was attended by CableLabs staff who discussed the software, as well as cable operators who provided an industry perspective on the value that it provides.

The CableLabs-developed software provides an accurate analysis of DOCSIS network usage based on information provided about the configuration and performance of DOCSIS network elements, as well as network traffic patterns associated with various services.

The software prototype was developed last year at CableLabs, in close coordination with cable operators, as a proof-of-concept project. The cable industry has shown a high degree of interest in the software because it helps in planning for DOCSIS upgrades as well as new service rollouts. It also allows for close usage monitoring of an operating network. Cable operators have requested that CableLabs provide the source code to the commercial sector for further development.
