Digeo Licenses CableLabs® Technology |
|
The license signed by Digeo, together with related OpenCableTM specifications, enable television and set-top box manufacturers to develop and market digital products that support two-way interactive cable services that run on the OpenCableTM Application Platform (OCAPTM) middleware (OCAP). “Digeo has always been a strong innovator of media center technology for the cable industry,” said Dr. Richard R. Green, president and CEO of CableLabs. “We look forward to having its interactive, OCAP-based products in our Labs for testing and Certification.” “Digeo recognizes the importance of industry standards. With this agreement we will work closely with CableLabs to produce Moxi products that deliver the promise of two-way interactive digital entertainment to both consumers and cable operators,“ said Jim Billmaier, CEO of Digeo, Inc. This two-way agreement is called CableCARDTM Host Interface Licensing Agreement (CHILA). The media center products developed in connection with this agreement will include OCAP, the middleware specification created by CableLabs for interactive applications. OCAP allows a variety of devices to run compatible applications delivered by cable operators, as well as applications provided by consumer electronics companies, program networks, and a growing population of OCAP software developers. Licensed products will also include an interface for the CableCARDTM removable security module. The CableCARD encapsulates the local cable system-specific conditional access technology, thus enabling nationwide portability, unified conditional access, and retail sale of these two-way devices. This standard will make it possible for a single Moxi Media Center to be compatible with all of the conditional access standards in the cable industry. This announcement closely follows the company’s first public demonstration of OCAP integration with the Moxi platform at The National Show (NCTA). Additionally, Digeo is working collaboratively with CableLabs to propose a new generation of OCAP extensions which many include support for advanced services such as multi-TV distribution, advanced user interfaces, and accelerated 3D rendering.
