Dr. David Reed Promoted to

| CableLabs® Senior Vice President of Strategic
Planning, Dr. David P. Reed has been promoted to Chief Technical Officer. A number of other recent promotions and staff additions also were announced. Reed has been with CableLabs for six years, during which time he has led a number of CableLabs key projects, including its PacketCable multimedia architecture initiative, strategic assessment effort, and most recently, its Go2Broadband SM business-to-business e-commerce project and the in-home networking effort (now CableHome).

"Through his great grasp on technology and strong grounding in economics, as well as his project leadership, David has made a terrific contribution to our industry," said CableLabs President and CEO Dr. Richard R. Green. "I am truly pleased to see David assume this key role at CableLabs." Reed will retain responsibility for leading CableLabs strategic assessment department, and the Go2Broadband and CableHome projects. His new responsibilities will include providing strategic oversight to CableLabs DOCSIS, PacketCable, and OpenCable projects, as well as guiding the development of entrepreneurial activities at CableLabs. Reed also will continue responsibility for leading new research and development projects addressing telecommunications technology assessment, business, economic, strategic, and public policy issues of immediate interest to member companies. Prior to joining CableLabs, Reed served for three years at the Federal Communications Commission as a Telecommunications Policy Analyst in the Office of Plans and Policy. He has published widely in telecommunications journals, books, and magazines. He authored the book Residential Fiber Optic Networks (Artech House, 1991) that examined the engineering, economic, and public policy issues raised by the deployment of fiber optic networks in the subscriber loop by telephone and cable companies. Reed earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He also holds a masters of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, and a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University. In other promotions at CableLabs, J.P. Singh was promoted to Director, E-Commerce, with new duties to direct and to manage the launch, ongoing operations and implementation of new features of the Go2Broadband Project. His former title was Project Director, E-Commerce Applications. Sheldon Webster was promoted to Technical Lead, PacketCable Lab Operations from Member of Technical Staff, Engineering Department. Mark Guzinski was promoted to Project Director, Interop Facilities. His new duties include overall responsibility for all CableLabs Laboratories and test facilities. His previous title was Manager of Interop Facilities. Kevin Luehrs was advanced to Project Manager of Digital Network Platforms in the CableHome project. His new duties are to manage the projects services provisioning and network management focus teams. Lara McGuire of the Communications Department was promoted to Marketing/Communications Project Manager from Communications Associate. Her new duties include managing the editorial elements of CableLabs Web sites. Crystal Anderson was advanced to Corporate Events Coordinator from administrative assistant in Corporate Events. Her new duties include additional support of internal meetings at CableLabs facilities. Recent new hires at CableLabs include Steve Saunders, named a Project Director, CableHome Software. Prior to joining CableLabs, Saunders worked at Vexcel Imaging. He holds a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. Dr. Yasser Syed has joined CableLabs as Project Manager, Streaming Media Technology, part of the Strategic Assessment Department. His duties include examining the business, technology and strategic planning issues arising in the evolution of digital streaming technologies. He formerly worked for Spectrapoint, a joint venture of Motorola and Cisco Systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. Syed also holds a masters of science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a bachelors of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Carol Jennett has joined CableLabs as a Senior Human Resources Generalist. Jennett most recently worked for Qwest Communications. Prior to that she worked for Coors and Columbine JDS Systems. She holds a bachelors degree in education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Masters degree from the University of Colorado-Denver in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Human Resource Development. OpenCable has added Craig Richardson as a Senior Test Technician, and also added Art Garner to Senior Test Technician. Garner formerly worked in the CableLabs Interop Facilities group. OpenCable also added Ray Roybal, formerly of AT&T Broadband, as a Test Technician, and Trina Tissaw joined the project as an administrative assistant. |
